Section 2
Put useful feedback into your next essay
An impression of the whole essay is hard to act on. Feedback is more useful when it names one thing and gives you a way to practise it.
What the feedback looks like
From the essay
Technology has changed society in many ways. It has made communication easier and has also created new problems. Therefore we must be careful about how we use it.
One observation
Each sentence states a position and moves on. Nothing in the paragraph gives a reason to accept the last one, so the conclusion arrives without support rather than because of it.
What to practise
Take the same claim and write the two sentences that earn it. Five minutes, one paragraph, no full essay.
A drill is practice. An essay is the evidence.
A drill works on one thing at a time and takes a few minutes. It is how you practise, and it is deliberately not how improvement is judged: getting better at a short exercise is not the same as writing better under a clock.
That is why the next full essay matters. Verantrix looks for the change in the writing itself, in a piece written under the same conditions as the examination.
Task A and Task B run in one block under a single timer, with no enforced split, so deciding how to spend the time across the two remains part of the task.
What the feedback does not do
It does not award a Section 2 score, and it does not estimate one. No marking service can tell you what ACER would award, and a number invented here would be worse than useless: you would plan around it.
The qualities it comments on are ours, chosen because they can be practised. They are not ACER’s marking criteria and are not presented as them.
It can also be wrong. It is a study aid, and the essay is still yours to judge. More about how the feedback is produced.
